As a network focusing on humanitarian work and disaster risk reduction, we share our concerns over the magnitude of humanitarian needs the people of Afghanistan are facing, amidst the deteriorating security situation. As such a disaster-prone nation, Afghanistan has been building its disaster risk governance capacity with strong commitment, and we truly hope that such endeavors will continue.
It is undeniable that conflict impedes DRR at all levels and we stress upon the pertinence of peacebuilding efforts from both local and international actors regarding the situation in Afghanistan. We call upon all parties concerned to respect and adhere to internationally recognized principles and standards of human rights, particularly to ‘do no harm’.
The Executive Committee and the Secretariat of ADRRN would like to express that we are with the people of Afghanistan at all times, and we stand ready to continue to advance disaster risk governance together in the future as well.
